Be Confident & Happy in Your Business

How to be Be Confident and Happy in Your Business

Running your own business is stressful and intense. You may think that happiness is a luxury that you don’t have time to focus on right now. But happiness is important. Not just for your own health and well-being, but for your confidence and business as well. Your team don't want a grumpy leader. Happy people are better workers, and they’re more enthusiastic, eager to help, and thankful. It’s infectious. Whether you work alone or have a team of employees, bringing happiness into your workplace will help your business thrive. There are two simple things you can do every day to be happier in your business in 2017.

Do Less

If you scoffed at this heading, don’t give up on me just yet. Doing less does not have to mean being less productive. When you take on too many tasks, you stretch yourself thin and create unreasonable expectations. This leads to stress and panic, which doesn’t add up to quality work. Really busy people tend to lack focus and find it harder to distinguish priorities clearly. Running yourself into the ground might feel like the best idea when you’re smashing goals, but when you inevitably end up sick or bedridden, you will quickly lose that head start.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to lower your output. When you are relaxed, and in a positive frame of mind it becomes clear what needs to be done. A business mentor can show you how to set a list of achievable goals and delegate tasks in the most efficient manner. Take time to consider your employee's skillsets and how they can best be utilised. Remember that infectious happiness we talked about? Great planning and a composed attitude will have everyone in your workplace performing at their best. Do not forget to turn off your phone at a certain time every day. You will feel the weight lift from your shoulders!

Stick to Your Values

If you have a business advisor or a mentor you probably have a great mission statement and set of values for your business. But I’m sure you can think of some companies who have lost sight of their beliefs. Stress and pressure are relentless forces in business which can get the best of any of us. But it’s important to keep returning to those core values which are so important. Your workplace should feel safe and welcoming, and your employees should feel valued and recognised. This is a key advantage in business success.

If an employee or customer is treating others poorly and creating a negative environment, it is your responsibility to address the issue, and remove them from your business if necessary. If it’s you bringing unhappiness into the workplace, you need to make a conscious effort to practice what you preach and set the right example. Similarly, you should cultivate good relationships with other business owners. Instead of comparing yourself to others, remember that your journey is your own, and that you have already achieved so much.
